Reports indicate that the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers could surface as potential destinations if he believes Los Angeles is heading in a different direction.
Any new contract would likely mark the first pay cut of James’ 23-year NBA career, with the final figure heavily dependent on the Lakers’ offseason roster plans surrounding Luka Doncic. If James were to leave, the Lakers could free up nearly $50 million in cap space by renouncing his Bird rights along with those of Rui Hachimura.
James has played 23 seasons for the Cavaliers, Lakers, and Heat, averaging 26.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists in 1,622 regular-season games.
