Embrace Quiet Moments with Some Light Reading

Published on: 2026-05-10 | Author: admin

The NFL never truly rests, though it occasionally dozes off. When there’s little action over a weekend, it’s an ideal opportunity to immerse yourself in a compelling book.

Whether my own books are any good isn’t for me to judge—reasonable opinions vary, and they do. But if you regularly follow what I post here, there’s a strong chance you’ll enjoy something that takes a bit longer to read.

And the cost is reasonable. At a time when prices keep climbing, I’ve kept all ebooks at 99 cents each. For the price of that $9 cup of coffee, you could grab all four and still have $5 left for a regular coffee and maybe a couple of cookies.

The latest, *Big Shield*, explores how legalized gambling can create major issues for a fictional pro football league (wink). The *Father of Mine* series (*Father of Mine*, *Son of Mine*) tells a small-town mob story inspired by the real crew that ran the town where I grew up. If you want to rediscover the Christmas spirit a few months late—or if you enjoy a different kind of ghost story—there’s *On Our Way Home*.

More are on the way. A third *Father of Mine* book is in the works, along with five or six others (I’ve lost count) that will be available eventually, hopefully while I’m still above ground.

Currently in progress is a short-story collection that hops through various horror subgenres (five done, five to go). I’ve also completely rewritten my first, long-lost fiction effort, *Quarterback of the Future*. The general plan is to release it around November 1, the 25th anniversary of PFT’s launch. (My internet son, PFT Commenter, can’t wait.)

Plans keep evolving—a fancy way of saying I’m unsure what to do with the various projects that are nearly ready. I try to spend two hours each night writing something, mainly to balance the repetitive cycle of knocking out 12 to 15 daily posts.

For now, check out one of the four books with a click or two. Each is under a buck.

If you’ve read this far, here’s the offer: I’ll give a signed copy of any of the four books to someone who emails me this weekend with “5/9/26 Giveaway” in the subject line. No purchase necessary.
